Our nursery environment and facilities enable your child to explore, develop and learn. Our Baby, Toddler and Preschool spaces are specially designed and equipped especially with them in mind. You’ll see many familiar homely items such as bookcases, tables, chairs, and sofas just much smaller than you are used to!

We consider the spaces around your child to be like their third teacher, joining you as parents and us as educators in guiding them through their learning. And you’ll notice how we use our garden area as an outdoor classroom too, full of features to support their play and learning. Our Baby, Toddler and Preschool rooms are perfect for the ages of children that spend their in them.

We keep many aspects of our nursery environments consistent as we know your child will benefit greatly from this. With core resources, enriching toys, games and creative materials, that are always at hand for your child to play with. However, it is not unusual for parts of our nurseries to become unique adventure places where your child’s imagination can run free!

Babies Environment

Our baby room is for children aged 3 months to 2 years old. The room focuses on the primary areas of the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ framework and encourages learning through play. There are various dedicated areas offering different activities that are changed to meet each child’s individual needs and interests, ensuring that it is age-appropriate for the child doing the activity. Babies also benefit from a ratio of one member of staff looking after no more than three children.

Our room benefit from a large bright open plan space with lots of natural light, which is separated into specific areas for eating, sleeping, physical and a general playroom.

In the playroom, our Babies are able to do: –

  • Water play
  • Sand play
  • Messy play, such as painting; gluing; gloop; playdough; food play.
  • Construction garden
  • Mark making station
  • A cosy corner to read stories and listen to songs and rhymes
  • Black and white area for our youngest babies
  • Home-corner to cook lovely food in

Our nursery facilities include a physical area, we have a wooden climbing frame that our Babies love to crawl all over, as well as practising standing and walking up and down to steps. To add to the experience of climbing they have different arrangements of soft block play. Babies also have supervised access to our fantastic gardens, which contains push alongs; little cars to ride on; chalk marking on black boards; ball play; and parachute play.

The sleeping area is a cosy quiet space for all of our children to sleep in. Our youngest babies have cots to sleep in and our older Babies start to sleep on the beds to help them prepare to come to Butterflies. We constantly monitor the temperature to ensure the children are comfortable and the integrated glass wall allows us to monitor the children at all times.

During meal times, everyone comes to sit at the table to share the social experiences. Caterpillars are encouraged to practise feeding themselves. In order to prepare the children to move on to Butterflies we allow self-serves at snack time for our older Caterpillars.

Toddlers Environment

The Toddler room also benefits from a number of dedicated areas. There is a creative area, a reading corner, circle time and a home corner for lots of role play. As this is the time when the majority of children start ‘toilet training’, the toddlers room is equipped with brightly decorated children’s toilets, encouraging independence. The unique discovery garden is fully equipped with an impact absorbing surface and lots of outside equipment designed to encourage coordination and balance.

Preschool Environment

Pre School children also follow the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’. We support them and prepare them for their eventual move to school. This is a more settled routine, with children working in small groups. Through our observations of children learning through play, we are able to introduce adult led activities that follow the interest of individual children, linking them to the seven areas of learning:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal social and emotional development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding of the world
  • expressive arts and design

All the children have access to IT equipment and we are just in the process of procuring brand new ipads for the children to become familiar with.

Outside Areas and Trips

Access to open spaces and fresh air is important for the development of children, allowing them to run, play and explore the world around them. The children have open access to the garden every day (free flow) from their room and complete a lot of their daily activities outside through choice. The gardens also reflect the areas of learning and allows problem solving on a grander scale.

All our children get the opportunity to go on local educational trips, and whether it be to the local shops or places of interest we always risk assess our outings and ensure that ratios are adhered to. We also invite the local emergency services to come in and talk to the children about safety awareness and how to use the phone in an emergency.
