This month in Caterpillar room our theme is ‘Families’. We will be looking into who is part of our family; creating family trees and all about me books so please can you bring in any photos you may have or email them into us. We would love some pictures of yourself and the family.
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and we will be looking at creating special potato printed cards to develop our fine motor skills. We will also be using our hands and feet to explore different textured paint.
We will be focusing on physical play to develop our gross motor skills. This includes kicking balls, balancing on foam blocks, driving cars and climbing steps.
With Mother’s Day approaching we will be practising for a musical performance that you will be invited to come and see.
February is a beautiful month to practice friendship and how to be loving and caring towards others. We will be focusing on the joy and happiness St Valentine brings us each year as well as learning and practising new songs for our Mother’s Day concert.
We will also spend the month celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’, recreating the ‘Great Wall of China’ and making Chinese decorations including our own musical shakers.
Even though it will be a busy month we will not forget about our Maths and Literacy. We will always ensure we are incorporating learning through our play by recognising new shapes, colours and words through our ever-changing activities.
February is already here and we are ready to start off our cultural celebrations for this year. We are going to have cultural experiences surrounding ‘Chinese New Year, the year of the Dog’ by making lanterns, painting dragons, dressing up in traditional wear and using chop sticks to pick up grains of rice. We will also be watching videos of children from China explaining what Chinese New Year is and how it is celebrated.
We are also going to celebrate Valentine’s Day by readying books about friendship and how we can express our feelings towards family and friends. We will be baking delicious cookies and creating cards to celebrate this.
Mother’s Day is slowly approaching and we will begin our preparations for this occasion by learning songs and dances.
We cannot wait for you to see.
