We have decided to change the names of two of our rooms to Caterpillars and Butterflies. This is because our clever little caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. The Preschool room will continue to be called Preschool.
We will be learning the name of our body parts by using ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and toes’ song and creating hand and foot prints. Please can you email the nursery a family photo, if you have not already done so.
The Caterpillars have introduced colour of the week. There is a colour interest table in the room, to enable the children to start recognising different colours. To assist with our colour of the week you can talk with your child about what colours are around you, Next week Caterpillars are looking at red and blue.
Throughout this month we will sadly be say goodbye to Summer and starting to welcome Autumn and changes of the weather. Butterflies will be looking at the different colours of the leaves, the weather change and how the environment around us changes such as the trees.
Please can you email the nursery a family photo, if you have not already done so.
With new Butterflies in the room we are continuing to practise our daily routine so we all know our expectations and limitations. Butterflies will be continuing to do self-registration using photos and children’s names, to encourage name recognition. During self-registration we are greeting each other in different languages and starting to recognise letters.
We continue to encourage the Butterflies to self-serve during snack and mealtimes As well as encouraging the children to be independent whilst using the toilet.
Preschool will be learning the class rules and routines, so they understand acceptable behaviour within the room and making happy, not sad choices will be our priority.
We will be exploring a range of books such as ¨Pete the cat-rocking in my school shoes´ and ¨Maisy goes to nursery” which we hope will help the new children settle happily in their new environment as well as form good relationships with adults and make friends.
Children will be encourage to begin to read own names, older pre-schoolers will work on writing familiar letters, words etc. Letters and sounds will be practiced on regular basis.
Children will be encourage to practice their self-help skills and becoming independent through regular activities such as serving food, drink, putting their clothes, shoes on without assistance and being responsible for small task of their choices.
As the summer is coming to an end we will focus on the changing seasons, learning about the colourful falling leaves, harvest time foods like pumpkins and apples, changes that happen in the weather such a drop in temperature and documenting our knowledge through art, craft activities.
